Greetings! Thanks for coming to
chat with us! We really appreciate it.
Hi, everyone. I've never done this
before. Thanks, Derek, for coming.
Hello.
Logged on at 4:05:46 PM (not Derek.)

derek: |
it is a pleasure. it will be hard
to prove that i am who i am. also i have a few starting problems.
but lets start.

msnovember:
Aurora:
jnancy:
|
oh this is sweet!
Hello Derek, have you been working
on anything lately
I have never done this type of
chat before. I don't know if I am doing this right. I hope so.
|
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
As Laura said, the No. 1 question
from all the fans is "What upcoming films and/or television
series are you working in (so we know to
keep an eye out for them!)
|
msnovember:
msnovember:
|
/me shaking here head
so, which one is the real ddl
here?
|
derek: |
no, i will be doing an outer
limits next week. but since the last outer limits that i shot in
may i have enjoyed an extended summer
vacation in british columbia.
|
hbelova:
Laura: |
now know
Derek, I was impressed by your
directing work in the Portents episode. Have you directed before?
|
Merano:
|
Do you wish to work more in the
US/Canada, or prefer to move back to Europe?
|
desiree:
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
will there be any ptl tv movies in
the near future
Do you know the title of the OL
episode yet so we can look out for it in the upcoming season?
|
Aurora: |
Are you planning on staying in
British Columbia? |
derek: |
it was my first direction ever. i
would love to work in an independant movie; it doesn't matter if
it is in europe or in north-america.
|
Cass:
Merano:
|
Do you have any immediate plans
for a movie?
It was very well done. Do you wish
to do more directing?
|
derek: |
ol episode is called breaking

Karen: |
We really enh\joy th ewide variety
of fims you've made. WHich was your favorite? |

for the time being british

still looking for the right part
love to do more directing |
Aurora: |
Do you think you will do another
series again? I was so upset when they cancelled Poltergeist. |
Laura: |
I'd like to say that you for all
of your hard work on PtL. I really enjoyed watching it, these
last 4 years. |
Karen: |
CLair does a great web site for
your fans. Any thought of making it official and using it to keep
in touch with your fans? |
derek: |
it all depends on the type of
series; the part itself and the writing. also the location is a
factor since i have kids who go to school.
|
desiree:
Merano: |
What would be your ideal film or
tv part to do
Would you like to do comedy?
|
derek: |
yes, of course! i should have done
this in the first place: thank you Claire and Helen for all the
love and dedication you have put into the
web-sites. i have more to say about this, but my answers cannot
be too long(i will miss some questions) |
derek: |
i would LOVE to do comedy. |
Clair(aka Clarianna):
hbelova:

You're very welcome! It's been
very enjoyable to do.
I am glad, that it is pleasant to
you!

Centronics(PZ):
Aurora:
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
It's really a shame that PTL
ended. Any hints on how the 4th season ends?
Yes, it sounds as if the house
will be destroyed.
Does The Beast Within, bring some
sort of closure to the series or are the viewers going to be left with a cliffhanger that never will
get resolved? |
Merano:
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
at
characters don't die in the final episode!
They'll live on in fanfic, even if
they do bite the dust! :-)
|
derek: |
it is hard to tell what the ideal
role would be. of course i have some fantasies about certain
roles, but i am also getting older. here
in vancouver is a film festival going on and i see a lot of
movies a lot from europe. it gives me an
inspiration to see |

Karen: |
Have their been any thoughts to
Making a PTL Movie for the big screen
Would yyou be willing to do
internet based PTL interactives , if the project ever gts off the
ground?
|
derek: |
i will not say anything about the
ending of the final season. |
msnovember:
Aurora:
Merano:
brownhorse:
|
aww man
I guess we will have to wait until
the middle of November to find out.
Well, we've only got a few more
weeks to wait. I think we can handle it!
in stealing haven and rituals the
characters aged during the films. how difficult was that to play?
|
derek: |
you know, it is hard for me
because some people have seen the ending of season four and some
have not. sorry... |
Centronics(PZ):
desiree:
msnovember:
|
Not even a little hint?
What actor or actress would you
want to work with given the chance
can u at least tellus if YOU r
happy with the ep?
|
Aurora: |
Is there anything in the works to
bring a Poltergeist movie to the screen with everyone coming
back?
|
msnovember: |
can u at least tellus if YOU r
happy with the ep?
|
derek: |
yes, i am happy with it. it is an
heroic ending for me. |
Merano:
msnovember:
Aurora:
Laura: |
uh-oh. Heroic. Doesn't sound like
it has a future to me. (grin)
ahhh now thats a BIG hint
That could mean you sacrifice
yourself.
Who are your favorite film
directors? |
derek: |
there are so many wonderful actors
everywhere in the world.when you have to age you depend even more on the make-up artist than ever. |
msnovember:
jnancy:
|
yeah but its tv they can bring
back anyone!
I enjoyed the relationship between
Derek and Alex. Did you and Robbi enjoy the way it progressed or
do you think it could have been
developed more? |
ruth: |
Before doing PTL, were you
knowledgable about the occult? or was it a learn-as-you go
experience?
|
Merano: |
Nobody Dies. Nobody Ever Dies.
(Forever Knight mantra)
|
derek: |
one of my favorite directors died
just before the opening of his last (no. 10) movie. (hint?) |
Clair(aka Clarianna):
Laura:
Karen:
Merano:
|
I think we can guess that one. :-)
Kubrick?
You're a Kubrick fan?
But could you have spent 18 months
on a film, even for Kubrick?
msnovember: kubrik?
|
derek: |
that's right. and NO; robbie and i
allways thought we should have been lovers.but they never went for it. i don't know why. |
msnovember:
Clair(aka Clarianna):
Aurora:
|
now there's something i would have
never guessed
No last minute confessions between
Alex and Derek at the end of the season?
Isn't the episode with the Tarot
cards, one where they state their feelings for one another. |
derek: |
to tell you the truth: i would
have enjoyed every minute of it. i may have hated him at the end
but to me he is a great director. |
msnovember:
jnancy:
|
yeah, he's good
You and Robbi seemed to put little
hints of romantic feelings between the characters. I take it this was on purpose? |
derek: |
yes, in the last episode there is
a moment, but it is only a moment. |
msnovember:
Karen:
|
better than nothing @all
You mentioned going to the film
festivals. Sounds like you're really devoted to cinema. Is
directing a way of developing yourself in the
meduim?. |
hbelova: |
The contents of last ep as if the
creators have decided to remove the lead actor from this show |
Aurora: |
Would you like to direct in the
future? I thought your direction of the Portents was vey good. |
Clair(aka Clarianna):
Clair(aka Clarianna):
Merano:
hbelova:
|
The whole show has been removed
(no season five.)
Not including reruns, of course.
It lives forever in reruns.
I hope
|
derek: |
well, it is funny; if i look back
at all the work i have done there are the independant movies.
allthough there was no money and no luxury
for the actors at all, there was a lot of devotion from everybody
in front of the camera and behind.i
really like that
|
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
This question is from Barbara
Pridgen (who couldn't be here tonight) - "Derek, I know that
you are justifiably proud of your
performance in 'The Assault'. One scene was particularly
well-done, and that is the scene in which Anton
has a confrontation with a childhood friend, Vake Phlug, in which they discussed a wartime atrocity
involving both their parents. This scene was very intense emotionally. As a person who was
born and raised in the Netherlands, were any of your relatives persecuted during World War II
and, if so, did you call upon any such family tragedies in order
to deliver such an outstanding
performance?" |
derek: |
talking about ptl: i feel
frustrated and i don't know very well what to say about it. you
tell me... |
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
It was frustrating for the fans as
well, it was *never* promoted as it should have been and it does have a solid fan base. |
Aurora: |
I really liked the character you
portrayed on plt. I wish we could have kept it on for Season 5.
|
Merano: |
I'd say I am always pleasantly
surprised when good stuff comes out of tv. Despite your
frustrations, you gave us some very good stuff.
Thank you. |
msnovember:
Aurora: |
i agree with clar
Yes, I think you did a great job
on plt. |
derek: |
yes, and i feel sorry for the
fans. |
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
Won't it be ironic if it becomes
even more popular than ever after airing all of its season on the
Sci Fi channel? |
Merano:
Aurora:
brownhorse:
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
Can we all say "Star
Trek"?
Then maybe the producers might do
a Season 5? do you think?
It happened to Star Trek
I consider us P:TL fans very
lucky... if P:TL had been a big network series, they would never
have given us four wonderful years
worth! |
msnovember: |
what do u think of the ptl books
coming out this fall? |
derek: |
thank you very much; i enjoyed
playing rayne. but sorry for all of you to whom it will be a
shock: there will be no season 5! |
Merano:
hbelova:
Aurora: |
I agree, Clar: we were amazingly
fortunate to get 4 years.
Have you not got tired to play the
same character?
So, there will be no Season 5, but
if they asked you to do a Poltergeist movie, would you consider it? |
derek: |
what can you tell me about books? |
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
There are three novels based on
the series coming out, first one is due this month. [ click here for descriptions and links to buy the P:TL books. ] |
derek: |
no, it is not the same character
you get tired of playing; it is the repetition of the same story
over and over again
|
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
Ace Books is the publisher. The
Hidden Saint by Rick Hautala is the first, it's a ghost story
with a mother and her dead son. |
hbelova: |
I very much love your films which
have been filmed in England and Holland. I would love, that you play in Europe, above all in your
native country. |
Clair(aka Clarianna):
Aurora:
msnovember: |
Almost forgot to mention... P:TL
has just starting airing in Holland... about time, eh?
Do you ever log on to Clarianna's
web page and read the Message Board?
havhaven't a clue, just wondering
how you feel about a character that u play being put in books.. gawdi suck at replies lol
|
derek: |
thank you clair, that is new to
me. it will be weird to read a new adventure of derek rayne and
not to play it. |
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
You haven't read any P:TL fanfic
stories, have you? :-) You'd be even more weirded out. Though I'd *highly* recommend
"The Chieftain's Daughter" if you want to see Derek
Rayne in a comedic role. |
Merano:
msnovember:
Clair(aka Clarianna):
|
My god, yes, "The Chieftan's
Daughter!" Can't remember when I laughed so hard.
or the one where he and alex are
in the pool? :)
It's so hilarious, you'll be
rolling on the floor. |
derek: |
yes, i read both guestbooks on
both web-sites.i would love to work on a better way to
communicate with my fans. my eldest son is
studying web-site-design and soon i will be more accesable
possibly with my own web-site. we'll see. |
Laura:
Aurora:
Clair(aka Clarianna):

Derek, do you have any interest in
writing for film or television?
That would be fantastic.
We'll be looking forward to that!
did u know about the emailing

Clair(aka Clarianna): |
I'm a professional web developer

it is inevetible. i think a lot in that direction. |

When you directed for the first

job, and what came easiest to you? |

That's funny, because my son had
to tell me what that meant a while ago
We were all foreigners to the

Centronics(PZ): |
Can you give any insight on where
the storyline with Alexandra Purvis (Kat) and Colleen Rennison (Miranda) is leading? |

i'm trin to get my boss to let me

Did you not see the last episode,
this past Friday? It was about Miranda and Kat.
|
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
I hope this doesn't interrupt the
flow of conversation but I promised I'd forward this question
from Sharon Rice and Susan Lay (who
couldn't be here tonight) - Are any of your children interested
in acting professionally? And if so,
would you encourage or discourage them? |
derek: |
the most difficult was to oversee
the problems that i was going to face since i had no experience what so ever to prepare.you have

at the moment none of my children

thing?
derek, what prompted u todo a chat

ruth: |
Is the chemistry between the
actors as good off-screen as it is on? I think it would be
difficult, if not impossible, to portray a 'team' if
the actors had problems amongst themselves. |
msnovember:
Aurora: |
oh come on it can't be that bad of
a career move.
It must have been nice to spend
the summer with your boys.

Especially if they inherited their

Though it seems to me that web
design might have a more solid future to it than acting (grin) |
derek: |
no, it is not a bad career-move,
but it comes with a lot of rejection. you really need to want it
in order to last long. |
Clair(aka Clarianna): |
That all depends, Val! My advice
there would be to get a Comp Sci degree and learn everything you can about databases (thinking
e-commerce here)

Since this chat *is* on a Beauty
Products site ... I think that it was during season two when it
looked like your hair had been dyed. Who
made *that* decision and WHY? (Note to Hollywood: women *like* naturally greying hair on
men!) |
msnovember:
Aurora: |
derek, but do your kids WANT to go
in into acting? if so would u encourage them?
Yes, I have the same questions,
your hair does seem to change color, every now and then. |
derek: |
well, thank you all for your time
and your support. i am going to a screening of a swiss movie in
the festival here, so i will not be
able to make it till 6 o'clock. |
ADDITIONAL INFO |
After checking the 18th Annual Vancouver Film Festival site, we can deduce that the film he must have gone to see that night was one that screened on
10/03/99 at 7:00 P.M. PST in VanCentre 1 called Beresina, or The Last Days of Switzerland
/ Beresina oder die letzten Tage der Schweiz
Switzerland since it was the only Swiss film shown that night. |
